Non-IT to Software Testing Career Change

 1) Soul Searching: Find out why you have entered the field of IT or especially software testing. Sooner or later you will have to explain it and it is best to know the answer to this question first.

2) Market Research: Check out the job listings in your area. Talk to friends and acquaintances. Online job portals and forums can also be of great help. Find information: demand for IT QA positions, salary size, work culture, desired skills/skills, related tasks, etc.

3)Get a taste of it: Due to the kind of information we are exposed to these days, you can find online resources that can get you started in minutes and just a few clicks on your computer. Try it Make sure this is your aptitude.

4) Start training: Some of us are great self-learners, while others need a little help. This is the time to start acquiring skills. Focus on the fundamentals. Find a class if it helps, there is a choice of online, offline (computer-based) and classroom sessions.

Choose what works best for you. Don't try to learn everything at once. Aim for one skill at a time, do complete justice and set yourself a target date and proficiency level and work towards it. There is no cheat code for this step.

5) Get Certified - Invest some effort, time, and money to get certified. This could help your IT-QA entry run smoother. This doesn't automatically qualify for a job offer, but it helps.

6) Apply for jobs, when you're ready - Build skills because that could make up for a lack of experience as a beginner. Again, look for resources and courses to help you master the skills. Create a great resume that is based on skills rather than experience. Be confident and persevere.

Remember that many factors must combine to land a successful job when the odds are against us: job openings, market situation, timing, demand in your area, and finally a bit of luck.

Now that we have the list, give it a try. It helps to remember that this is what you want and that nothing is sweeter than the fruits of hard work. Be confident throughout the process and stay motivated.
